Chael Sonnen SAVAGES Chuck Liddell For Getting Knocked Out By Tito Ortiz

Chael Sonnen was never a fan of the Tito Ortiz vs Chuck Liddell trilogy fight.

‘The American Gangster’ tagged both former UFC champions as “has-beens” days before the conclusion to their celebrated rivalry unfolded at The Forum in Inglewood, California. So when ‘The Huntington Beach Bad Boy’ knocked out ‘The Iceman’ in their trilogy bout, the Bellator standout sure had some words for the main event loser.

Quick Work

UFC Hall of Famers Ortiz and Liddell locked horn last weekend for the third and final chapter of their rivalry. The 48-year old fighter has won the two previous fights but it was Ortiz who came out on top in their third meeting, which for many fans, should not happen in the first place.

The headlining act of the first MMA event of the Golden Boy Promotion was dominated by the 43-year old veteran after he knocked out Liddell in the 4:24 mark of the opening round. Finally, Ortiz scored his first win over his greatest rival. The loss, meanwhile, could send ‘The Iceman’ back to retirement.

Liddell offered no excuse about the loss, saying that Ortiz was the better fighter and insisted that he did not come out of retirement for fame or money.

“I showed up, no excuses. I was in great shape, ready to go, and he was the better man. So, there it is. I loved being in there. You’ve got to understand, I love fighting. I never did this for money or fame. That’s not why I started. I did this because I love being out there. I was ready to go. I wish I had done a few things different, obviously, but it happens.”

Like a Whiskey

While Ortiz has  given his biggest rivalry a savage welcome back in the Octagon, Sonnen brought the savagery on social media as he took aim at Liddell after a disappoining loss last weekend. The media mogul showed his wit on Twitter to savage the MMA legend. He wrote:

He then followed it with a series of rhymes, criticizing Chuck, Tito, and even boxer-turned-promoter, Oscar De La Hoya.

But even before the trilogy fight, ‘The American Gangster’ had never been kind to both ex-UFC champs. He called both fighters, who were already past their primes, a ‘has-been,’ ahead of their showdown.

“Tito Ortiz HAS BEEN a world champion. Chuck Liddell HAS BEEN one of the most feared fighters in mixed martial arts. The most important fact I’ve mentioned here is that both are HAS BEENS.”
