A massive fight between two of the most elite strikers in the UFC today will take place on Australian soil. Israel Adesanya vs. Anderson Silva has fans seriously excited…
Since joining the UFC in February of this year, former kickboxing champion Israel Adesanya has made a big splash. Firstly facing Rob Wilkinson at UFC 221, Adesanya scored a typically dominant TKO. Most recently, ‘The Last Stylebender’ devastated Derek Brunson at UFC 230 with a savage finish.
There had been talks of Adesanya getting the next title shot at the middleweight belt. Current champion Robert Whittaker is scheduled to face Kelvin Gastelum in February next year. Adesanya recently posted a photo of himself with UFC president Dana White claiming a title shot was the topic for discussions.
Another interview held with Adesanya later that week showed he was supremely confident in his skills compared to the champ Whittaker.
Israel Adesanya vs. Anderson Silva
Although he will be fighting on the same card as Whittaker, Adesanya’s next fight will not be against the champion. Today’s news confirms that Adesanmya, as per Brett Okamoto of ESPN, will fight former middleweight champion Anderson Silva on the UFC 234 main card. The Australian PPV is headlined by Whittaker vs. Gastelum.
Massive news for the fans of Adesanya as Silva is a fellow striker with little time for the ground game. Well timed indeed, as the UFC is essentially guaranteeing a replacement, in Adesanya, should either Gastelum or Whittaker get injured. The news was first broke on Twitter by Okamoto:

Israel Adesanya vs. Anderson Silva Is Exactly What We Need
Albeit not a title fight, this bout of pure strikers could easily headline a pay-per-view event. It will bring some great attention to the MMA scene in Australia, which has been blooming but in need of a big boost. Silva hasn’t fought since defeating Derek Brunson at UFC 208 and again failing a USADA test.
“The Spider” was later exonerated and was again eligible to compete as of this month. Here’s how the UFC 234 card is shaping up so far:
