Bisping’s Gruesome Eye Injury
Five years have passed and ever wonder what was the reason behind Michael Bisping’s eye injury?
Bisping and Belfort locked horns with one another in the main event of UFC on FX 7 in January 2013. Victor Belfort won the Middleweight title shot against Bisping via second-round TKO at 01:27 after landing a devastating left high kick flush on Bisping’s skull and finishing him off with strikes on the ground.
According to the Daily Star, the victory was shrouded in controversy as at the time, Belfort was using the now outlawed testosterone replacement therapy. The vicious kick detached Bisping’s retina and left him permanently disfigured.
“We all know the dangers of this sport. I mean, we’re trying to knock each other out,” Bisping reflected on the incident a few years later during an appearance on The Three Amigos podcast.
“I’ve been left permanently disfigured, if you will, from my fight with Vitor Belfort. Vitor Belfort head kicked me and that’s what caused my detached retina. Since then, I’ve had five surgeries, and my eye is never going to look the same again. That was one of the reasons why I said I was never fighting anybody else with a steroid history.”
Bisping Is Back with a New Look
After Bisping’s fight against Victor Belfort, “The Count” Bisping had not been able to get the issue fully fixed, as the medical procedure would leave him vulnerable to blindness in the eye if he continued to fight. Bisping’s retirement has given him enough time to have his right eye fix.
Through the use of his social media account, Instagram, Bisping proudly posted a photo of him showing off his successful eye surgery result. With a caption: “Look into my eyes”.
You may never see him again inside the Octagon but what matters most is he’s now able to see to his loyal fans with his eyes. Everyone can now look into Bisping’s eyes!
