Askren Vs Lawler
In the middle of the first round, Lawler landed a dozen unanswered blows at Askren who seemed to take in the punishment. Despite this, he was able to get back to his feet blood-soaked.
After a few exchanges and clinching up against the fence, Askren goes for a bulldog choke that made referee Herb Dean wave the fight off at the 3:20 mark of the first round.
Despite getting off his debut fight with the victory, the start of Askren’s UFC walk happened a bit messy and controversial. He called out a plethora of fighters to welcome him in the Octagon before getting finally paired up against Lawler.
Best He’s Got
‘Funky’ and White have a bit of bad blood going on between them as the native of Arizona confronted the UFC boss during the UFC 235 weigh-ins prior to refusing to take his handshake.
According to the former undefeated Bellator and ONE Championship welterweight king, Dana White hasn’t talked to him yet before the ceremonial weigh-ins so he seemed to capitalize on the opportunity at UFC 235.
After winning his welterweight match against Lawler, Askren called out the UFC boss with a brief question:
“Hey Dana, is that really the best you got? Bring ’em baby!”
