Artem Lobov Reacts To Being Released By The UFC

Artem Lobov, dubbed online as the greatest fighter to ever step in the Octagon, has been released by the Ultimate Fighting Championship but his legion of fans have no reasons to worry as the Russian GOAT plans to bring his talent to other MMA outfits.

On Tuesday, Lobov announced on social media that his three-year stay with the UFC has come to an end, following reports that the Nevada-based promotion has granted him a release. In the following posts, “The Russian Hammer” expressed his interest in showing his greatness to UFC’s rival promotions.

Artem Lobov made his debut back in December 2015, where he was a finalist at The Ultimate Fighter. His UFC career started on a losing note as he suffered a unanimous decision loss to Ryan Hall in the tournament’s lightweight finals.

The 32-year old fighter, who trains with former double champion Conor McGregor, cruised to another unanimous decision loss in his second UFC appearance before winning the next two fights against Chris Avila and Teruto Ishihara respectively.

Then “The Russian Hammer” suffered a complete turnaround after his first win streak as he went on to lose his next three outings, all via unanimous decision. Lobov collected two wins and five losses in his three-year stay with the UFC. He is 13-15-1 overall in his professional MMA career.

According to ESPN’s Ariel Helwani, Lobov has still three fights left in his contract but the SBG Ireland product has requested for a release. A report from The Mac Life said that he is pursuing an MMA fight this March but the promotion did not book him.

Lobov has taken to Twitter to announce that he is now ready to take on anyone following his release while tagging some of the UFC’s rival MMA promotions including Bellator, ONE FC, and Rizin.

“Locked and loaded, ready to take on anyone and everyone! Who wants it!?” he wrote.

The 32-year old featherweight then called out Muay Thai champions Buakaw and Saenchai before challenging Paul Malignaggi and Amir Khan to a boxing fight.

“K1 has always been on my radar, proper fights!!! Buakaw, Senchai… .send them my way, it would be a huge honour to share the ring with them!!! @GLORY_WS”

“Malinagi and Khan I am ready to go next saturday, where are yous at??!!”

Following a decision loss at UFC Moncton last October, SBG Ireland’s head trainer Paul Kavanagh paid tribute to Lobov, saying he is one of the most exciting fighters in the sport.

“I don’t think Artem has the skills to be a UFC world champion, I can be honest and state that but he, 100 per cent, has earned the respect of his fellow fighters and shown, independently, he earned his spot on that stage.”

“He understands the business and knows how to build a fight and always brings an exciting contest. Love him, hate him, fans are always engaged when the Russian Hammer is on a card. I do not know what is next for him. Maybe he will decide to put his masters in finance or his fluency in [five] languages to use in the corporate world but if he fights again I will proudly stand behind him holding his bucket.”
