A legend of the sport is willing to risk big if the Ultimate Fighting Championship gives the green light for the Conor McGregor vs Anderson Silva ‘superfight.’
The ex -UFC interim heavyweight kingpin and pride champion Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira said he would bet his personal properties on his Brazilian jiu-jitsu student to knock out the former two-division champion if the bout comes to fruition.
A Great Opponent
In an interview with ESPN early this month, the Irishman has expressed his interest in taking on Silva in a fight, calling the former UFC middleweight champ a legend of the game and a great opponent.
“You know what would be another great one? Anderson Silva. I would be interested in an Anderson Silva bout. I swear to God. Anderson is a legend in the game. What’s the difference between him and Georges? Same damn thing. I’m going to do fights that interest me or have meaning.”
With McGregor losing to Khabib Nurmagomedov via a fourth-round submission in the main event of the UFC 229, aka the biggest fight in UFC history, MMA fans have been speculating about his next assignment. It looks like the 43-year old fighter could be the perfect shoo-in.
“I’m waiting because I accept the challenge for Conor. I think UFC President Dana White needs to think about this because it’s two big guys in this sport. Two big names – yes, absolutely, two big legends. And, why not? I think 180 for me is good. I think for Conor too. Because it’s a super fight, it’s not about weight class,” Silva told TMZ last week.

For ‘Big Nog,’ the showdown between Silva and McGregor would be a match made in heaven. Not only will it feature two former UFC champions but two athletes with great striking, kickboxing, and trash talking skills.
“I think it’s a super fight! Conor McGregor knows how to control distance well, but Anderson does it like nobody else. Derek Brunson is aggressive, knows how to close the distance, but couldn’t do anything against Anderson. The grappling aspect would be Anderson’s biggest obstacle. It would be a beautiful fight between two talented athletes who know how to punch and kick.” stressed Nogueira in an interview with Combate.
But if this gigantic clash happens, the MMA legend is not just rooting for his Brazilian jiu-jitsu student but is also ready to bet his own house and car on Silva to finish ‘The Notorious’ via knockout.
“I would bet my house and car on Anderson, he would knock him out.”
“Anderson masters distance like nobody else. They’re both southpaws, Anderson is good with counters and McGregor is good at straight punches. It would sell. Anderson knows how to play the trash talking game. If he needs to put on that mask, he will.”
The 43-year old Silva will be eligible to fight again as his one-year suspension from USADA will end on November 10. McGregor, meanwhile, said he will be ready to face the next in line after absorbing a deflating loss against Numragomedov earlier this month.
