The tale of David and Goliath was first written in the Book of Samuel in about 630BC and has remained in our cultural consciousness ever since.
David, the smallest warrior in the land, took on the giant of a man, Goliath, killing him with a stone and then taking his severed head back home with him.
We’ve always been fascinated with these sorts of matchups, whether it’s a small business taking on a company like Apple or Microsoft.
Or if it’s like this case where a regular sized guy takes on a man who outweighs him significantly in the ring.
So often it seems the case that no one ever really thinks about their logical conclusion…
That most of these David-esque victories are outliers and by NO MEANS should you be fighting a bloke who has a few hundred pounds on you.
We enter this video midway through a Muay Thai kickboxing bout between “Alex from the UK” and an unknown fighter organised by the Sinbi Muay Thai training camp in Phuket, Thailand.
Alex advances on the man silly enough to get in the ring with him, stalking his prey until they reach one of the corners of the ring.
And it’s to no-ones surprise what happens next in a matchup like this.
Alex lets fly with a thunderous right leg kick, smacking home and lifting his opponent off his feet almost as if he wasn’t there.
He clatters to the ground with an audible thud but bravely gets up immediately.
It doesn’t matter much as we all know what is upcoming for the lad.
Goliath Defeats David This Time
The two men trade blows, with Alex landing another heavy leg kick before covering up as his opponent lets fly, even landing a flying punch at one point. “Hyah,” screams the commentator, before Alex lands a right hand that sends his opponent reeling.
The two break for a moment before Alex kicks once more, this time sending his opponent stumbling.
They continue, with Alex hunting his opponent into a corner and trading shots with him, confident he can get the finish.
With one more leg kick, his opponent is finished, unable to stand after taking such venomous strikes to his thigh and shins.
This really is one of those fights that should never have happened, and likely never would have in a country with a more reliable sanctioning body.
Nevertheless, we’re glad it’s here because it serves to remind every young upstart that they probably shouldn’t try and take on a guy who towers over them and weighs double or triple their size.
See? You don’t need those 6-pack abs to fight. Sometimes, body size is more important.

This British guy has defied the norms in the sport – that you don’t have to be muscular or possess those 6-pack abs to win. In this case, you let the size does the damage!
